Cost of Living

The constant cutting down in life, a joy that never ends.
No wonder people now don't visit family and friends.
Although they may have telephones, they can't afford to talk.
Due to the cost of transport most of them have to walk.
Shoes and clothes cost far too much. The price of fuel is high.
Leisure time and holidays now pass most people by.
Food is so expensive it's charged at premium rate.
It isn't that much cheaper when it's past its seIl by date.
They can't afford a partner, a husband or a wife.
Continued parsimony means they can't afford a life.
Perhaps it would be cheaper if they drew their final breaths.
Yet with the cost of funerals they can't afford their deaths.
Perhaps the great creator with the dead is more forgiving.
Though that is very doubtful as he's no thought for the living.
We do not ask for great amounts, a bit less chaff more wheat.
Sufficient for a decent life. Enough to make ends meet.
