About Your Voice
the history of Your Voice
Your Voice has been produced since 1997 and has been well received by users, carers and professionals. Circulation has grown from about 1000 to over 3000, with new requests for the magazine still arriving.
The magazine has "told it like it is" from the user and carer perspective, but without exaggeration. Professionals have also been able to voice their concerns. This balanced view is one that has been valued by the whole community.
The magazine has always been free and Your Voice feels this is important to keep service users and carers involved. A website has been developed with the further aims of reducing isolation for users and carers. It is hoped that this will enable Your Voice to interact with more people.
In the future, Your Voice hopes to broaden the scope for user/carer involvement in the production and management of the magazine and further develop links with statutory and other services.
our aims
The aims of the Your Voice organisation are to produce a magazine which:
- encourages communication about mental health issues so as to educate, inform and promote positive attitudes to mental health;
- represents the views of as wide a range of user and carer groups as possible and in particular those from under-represented and socially excluded groups;
- is independent, owing allegiance to no one body;
- gives both local and national perspectives so that ideas for good practice and user involvement both in Sheffield and in other areas are included;
- establishes working links with relevant statutory and voluntary organisations in the field, in order to promote communication between service users, carers and professionals;
- aims to engage service users and carers in all aspects of magazine production.
